The Iniobong Ekim Edo who’s popularly called Ini Edo has dominated the movie world for more than 2 decades, bringing smiles to people’s faces with her beauty and exceptional talent.

Ini is from the Ibibio-speaking part of Akwa Ibom, about 3 hours away from Calabar.

Ini was born on April 23, 1982(age 41), in Akwa Ibom to Mr and Mrs Edo. Her father is a church elder and her mother was a teacher. She has 3 siblings(Ukeme, Idara, and Edo Jnr).

Edo’s journey started in 2000 after making her first appearance in “Thick Madam”.

Her groundbreaking performance in World Apart in 2004 shot her into the limelight.

In 2017, the dark-skinned actress noted that hard work, dedication, and consistency keep her moving in the world of Nollywood, a place filled with distraction.

For over 20 years, she has appeared in over 200 movies, giving exceptional performances. She has evolved and has embraced personal development and growth.

Some time ago, she noted that she doesn’t just star in any type of movie again, adding that the storyline of every movie is very important to her because she wants to portray a quality movie with a depth of artistic resonance.

Ini Edo started signing multi-million Naira deals in the early 2000s, making her one of the actresses with the highest deals in the history of Nollywood.

She signed an endorsement deal with Globalcom Nigeria in 2006, followed by Noble Hair, and then Slim Tea Nigeria. These are just a few.

In 2014, she was appointed by the United Nations as the United Nations Habitat Youth Envoy. 

In 2016, she was a special assistant on culture and Tourism to the former governor of Akwa Ibom, Udom Emmanuel.

Ini has a foundation called GEMS(Girls Empowerment Mentorship Scheme). 

The charity organization has empowered over 10,000 African women and still counting. 

Brown Sugar as she’s fondly called has been a judge on several episodes of De9ja Spirit Talent Hunt since its inception years ago. 

She was also a judge at the Miss Black Africa UK Pageant.

Iniobong is still active in movie-making but not as she was in the early stage of her acting career. 

She produced Shanty Town, a Netflix crime thriller released in January 2023. The blockbuster got positive reviews from movie lovers and film critics alike. 

In 2021, she launched her cosmetic brand called Secrets of April.

Boyfriend

Ini Edo is in a romantic relationship with Ik Ogbonna and kept it away from the media for long. This was confirmed by Nollywood Corner after she took to her official social media handle on January 11, 2024, to celebrate Ik’s 40th birthday.

She penned down an affectionate note, stating that he’s amazing, kind and loving to her. She said he has the purest heart and prayed that the universe aligns with his dreams and that the goodness of his heart will attract only the good things in this world.

She also prayed that his days will be filled with peace, joy and laughter, affirming that she loves him. “Happy birthday my love” she added. Then Ik replied to her, “Thanks, love you always”.

Ini Edo trended in early 2023 after Goerge Wade, the man who released Empress Njamah’s nude photos and videos, also released his conversation with Ini and dropped a video of her International passport.

Ini claimed she never had any ties with him and that he was denting his image. 

She said George contacted her as a movie producer who wanted to cast her in his movie then during their conversation, he drifted from his main course and started proposing a relationship but she declined.

Ini Edo doesn’t have a twin sister but shares a striking resemblance with her elder sister, Ukeme Ekim Edo.

Ukeme is the CEO of Kemzeal Food (she sells crayfish, sea fish, and palm oil).

Edo Junior is Ini Edo’s younger brother. He’s a filmmaker, event manager, artiste, and producer.

Ini also has a younger sister who looks very much like her. Her name is Idara Ekim Edo but she now bears the name, Idara JoeMark.

Idara tied the knot with her longtime lover, Joe Mark on November 25, 2014.

Ini has an aged father. Mr Edo was born on March 13, 1938. He’s 85 years old and her mother, Mrs Edo who looks quite young is in her 60s.

Ini didn’t give birth through a man but through surrogacy in 2021.

Is Ini Edo Bleaching?

In September 2020, Ini shared a video of her face, looking light. 

She added that she wasn’t trying to bleach but was experimenting with a skin care product that caused discoloration and eczema-like marks. The actress has gone past that now.

Yes, she was married to Philip Ehiagwina, an American businessman in 2008 and their union crashed 6 years later, on September 2014.

During her interview with a media personality, Chude in June 2023, she revealed that her family forced her to get married even though she was not ready then and that she regretted it.

During her interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, she noted that she never wanted to become an actress but a lawyer or newscaster. 

She said she loves watching the news and that she has always been in the art department right from secondary school.

Ini Edo said she went for a diploma in Theatre Art while waiting for JAMB to do Law then the opportunity of filming came through, adding that she was destined to be an actress.
